Another Delaware County school district is trying to figure out how to make ends meet. Last week it was Chichester; this week it’s William Penn.
School directors there find themselves staring at a $9 million budget gap.
The solution is not likely going to please anyone.
After cutting 28 positions last year, the district is considering chopping another 27 this year.
Athletic programs are being slashed. Some busing services are being eliminated. And that is all on top of a projected 4.879 percent tax hike.

I used to think I had the most unpopular job in Delco. I might have to reliniquish that title to Charlotte Hummel. She’s president of the William Penn School Board.
Even my meager math skills can figure this one out. The numbers in William Penn simply do not add up. Pour into that already volatile cocktail severe cuts at the state level, and you have every school board member’s nightmare.
It’s being repeated all across the state.
And it is about to become a nightmare for the rest of us, as well.
