Some random thoughts after the Flyers dismantled the Sabres to advance in the Stanley Cup playoffs:
* Anyone ever remember a team using three different starting goalies in a playoff series? And has a goalie ever come in twice in a reserve role, as Brian Boucher did, to help will his team to victory?
* The heart and soul of this team is Chris Pronger. They simply are a different team when he is on the ice.
* The real MVP of this team is its unconventional coach, Peter Laviolette. He is not your normal coach. He tackles each game as if it’s Game 7. He does not care whose feelings get bruised in the process. Not many coaches would have pulled off the goalie carousel Laviolette did in this series, but the results don’t look to bad now..
* How sweet must it be for the Flyers to blow out the Sabres in the deciding Game 7, with Brian Boucher standing tall in goal, and at the same time sending Sabres star goaltender Ryan Miller to an early shower, pulled after giving up three goals.
On to Round 2.
