What's Werth worth?

Tonight we get to find out what Werth was worth.

The early guess here is that Jayson Werth is worth whatever he can get on the market. The Nats decided to dangle $126 million in front of the former Phillies No. 5 hitter. He never blinked, taking the money. I don’t blame him a bit.

There was a lot of concern all winter about the loss of Werth in the Phils’ lineup. Those concerns only grew more serious when it became obvious this spring that Chase Utley was nowhere near ready to play.

Taking those two bats out of your lineup could leave a fairly serious vacuum.

But it hasn’t worked out too bad for the Phils. Ben Francisco seized the opportunity by the throat when young supposed phenom Domonic Brown suffered a broken bone in his hand in Clearwater and has not looked back.

Francisco is hitting .306 in the early going with 11 hits and two home runs. In the meantime, much like the team he now plays for, Werth has struggled to start the season. He’s hitting just .200 with seven hits and one dinger.

The Phillies offense is looking like a juggernaut. The Nationals’
offense is looking like, well, the Nationals offense.

Werth is hitting out of the two hole for the Nats, which seems a little odd.

Which also describes what seeing him in that Nats uniform and jogging out to right field in the top of the first will be like tonight.

What’s Werth worth? Apparently about $126 million, according to the Nats.

Time to move on, Phils’ fans. Werth will no doubt hear it from the usual gang of Phillies fans who make the trip down I-95 to see the game.

Don’t be too hard on him. He did what I assume any of us would in the same situation. He took the money.

But it doesn’t look like he’s going to turn around the Nats. At least not yet.

Reversal of Fortune? For a guy used to playing for a contender and hitting behind feared slugger Ryan Howard, I guess you could say that.
