The working life

This is not good news. On the way into the office this morning I heard about a new health study that almost made me run off the road.

Here’s the gist: If you work more than 11 hours a day, you have a much higher likelihood of suffering from heart disease. How much higher? Uh, 67 percent higher. Ouch!

Not exactly the kind of news a newspaper editor wants to hear. We tend to work long, weird hours.

On the flip side, the study did not seem to indicate there was any corresponding benefit to working a normal, eight-hour day.

So I’ve got that going for me.

I'd be interested in knowing how long most people spend at their job every day. Post a comment on this blog item and let me know, and I'll report the results in tomorrow's blog.
