There's a new sheriff in town - in Radnor

Move over, Mike Chitwood.

There’s a new chief in town.

And another one who is not afraid to use the media.

Bill Colarulo is no stranger to cameras and notepads. He spent three decades as a high-ranking Philly police officer, and was a familiar face on TV as a spokesman for the department in any number of high-level cases.

Now that he’s the new chief in Radnor, Colarulo is bringing his media-savvy act to the Main Line.

I noticed the difference right away. We started getting emails alerting us to press conferences from Radnor Police Department.

Last week Colarulo held several press availabilities, one on a brazen armed holdup of a woman who was holding a baby outside a Wayne Starbucks, and still another on a missing woman.

Mike Chitwood, the boss of the Upper Darby police department, has earned quite the reputation for the way he works the media. Now it looks like he has company.

The men have something in common. They are both longtime Philly officers who don’t mind using the media to get their point across.

Chitwood’s act has not always sat well with other officers here in Delco. Now it looks like he has company.

Don’t look for me to complain. I’m all for it.

I wonder if Colarulo had discussions with Radnor officials about the way he would use the media before he took the job. It certainly is a different approach.

And I wonder if everyone out on the Main Line are especially thrilled about having their dirty laundry aired in the local media.

I’ve always told anyone who complains about how often Mike Chitwood ends up in the paper, that I am an equal opportunity publicist.

I go where the news is.

Turns out a lot of it now is going to be coming from Radnor.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Chief Colarulo.
