Less than one month from today, the SPCA will be out of the animal control business. That much is known.
Very little else is, however, when it comes to animal control in Delaware County.
Delaware County is moving to build a shelter on a parcel of land near the Emergency Services Training Center in Darby Township. But who will operate it is unknown. What is known is that it is unlikely to be the Chester County non-profit Dinah’s Way. Turns out they’re not a very good fit for the daunting size of the operation here in Delaware County.
Which leaves the county, as well as its 49 municipalities, with a fairly pressing question.
On June 1, who will be in charge of animal control in the county. Right now, your guess is as good as anyone else’s.
