Clock ticking at Crozer

It’s crunch time Crozer-Chester Medical Center.

There is a bargaining session today that might be the last chance to avert a strike by the hospital’s 700-member nursing staff. Their contract expires Wednesday.

You can read the update here.

The nurses are saying they want increased staffing at the hospital to better insure quality patient care.

I get the distinct impression from the hospital that they believe this is a smokescreen for more money. They insist that their staffing ratios are within the industry standards and point out that a quarter of Crozer nurses make more than $100,000 a year.

Crozer is a huge cog in the Delaware County economy. A strike would not help anyone.

We’ll keep tabs on the talks for you today.

It is great that the Crozer-Keystone nurses make $100,000 per year. But that's a lot of money for people who sit at a computer screen and ignore the alerts that a patient needs assistance. As most visitors observe. They obviously need more staffing so there can be more RNs sitting at their computer screens on each patient floor ignorning the alerts that a patient needs assistance. More patient care? The nurses should look in a mirror.
