'Live' on education funding

We dove back into the crisis surrounding school budget’s on last night’s ‘Live From the Newsroom’ show that we live-stream on our website.

My thanks to two very good guests, longtime Haverford School Board member Larry Feinberg, and Linda Cook, a longtime educator in the Penn-Delco School District, and president of the Southeaster Region of the state teachers union, the Pennsylvania State Education Association.

Both painted a fairly compelling picture of the issues that we laid out last week in our series, “Schools of Hard Knocks.”

Both made it clear that projected cuts will have big effect on the quality of education, both disputed that aside from federal stimulus funds Pennsylvania was actually increasing education funding, and both made very clear their belief that testing programs such as the PSSA and No Child Left Behind are ruining education.

In all, a very spirited discussion. I thank them both.

If you missed the show, you can catch the replay here.
