Turnabout not fair play for Phils' pitchers

For much of this season, the Phillies have been carried by the strong arms of their Fab Four starting pitchers.

This week they are learning how the other half lives.

On successive days, their two aces, Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee, have struggled. The Phils still managed to scratch out a 5-4 win Monday despite Halladay's struggles.

Yesterday Lee was not as lucky. He got hammered by the Nationals, giving up six runs on seven hits. That included two home runs to rookie Danny Espinosa.

On Monday Halladay was victimized for three dingers by the Nats.

That’s supposed to be the Phils’ calling card, but their lineup has struggled to provide any semblance of consistent run production. At one point this season, Lee got exactly zero runs scored on his behalf for 27 consecutive innings while he was on the mound.

Despite all this, the Phils have managed to compile the best record in baseball at 34-21.

So there’s no need to worry.

Yet. Is there?
