Dream Team turns nightmare

It’s a label that is going to hang around their neck all year.

“Dream Team.”

Those words had barely exited Vince Young’s mouth in describing the collection of talent the Eagles were putting together when a collective groan went up from Nova Care nation.

But all Jeff Lurie’s soldiers and all Joe Banner’s men can’t remove the label.

Last night the Dream Team turned nightmare.

The Eagles got outplayed and outclassed in just about every faction of the game in dropping an exhibition game to the Steelers, 24-14.

No one escapes blame in this one.

Michael Vick threw three interceptions. What did he have to show for his night in Pittsburgh? He completed just 5 of 12 attempts for a measly 47 yards.

Things were even bleaker on the other side of the ball. Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers first-team offense moved the ball at will while building a 21-0 lead.

Vick will be all right. But the Eagles’ defense has serious problems, and most of them center on their linebacker corps.

Reid is going to be under increasing scrutiny in all this because of his decision to make offensive line coach Juan Castillo his defensive coordinator.

Luckily this was only a preseason game. It doesn't count.

Except for mocking any notion of a “dream team.”
