Much is being made these about the problem of ‘flash mobs’ – groups of rowdy kids who are up to no good.
There have been several incidents in Philadelphia in which these groups – usually alerted by social media – have quickly formed and wreaked havoc.
Just last night three teenagers – students at the Mastery Charter School – turned themselves in to face felony charges of assault in an attack that left a man with serious injuries.
Yes, it’s a big problem.
Last night I met someone who might be part of the solution.
Meet Tyree ‘TopDollar’ Dumas. He joined us for our weekly live-stream Internet roundtable, ‘Live From the Newsroom,’ along with state Rep. Margo Davidson, D-164, of Upper Darby.
Dumas heads an orgnization called DollarBoyz Inc. Their mission is to keep kids off the streets and out of trouble. He hosts safe teen parties and other events aimed at giving kids something to do and someplace to go other than the streets.
