Maybe that was God shedding one more tear – or lots of them – for the Voice of Summer.
The ceremony to unveil the 7-foot bronze statute of beloved Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas got washed out yesterday, along with the finale to the Phillies-Nationals series.
Members of the “Dear Harry” organization, the group that raised the money for the Larry Nowlan creation, got a sneak peek along with some Kalas family members.
All were on hand for the affair, which was to see the installation and unveiling of the state near the left-field foul pole at Citizens Bank Park, near the entrance to Harry the K’s restaurant. The area is being dubbed “Kalas’ Korner.” It’s a fitting lead-in to one of the ballpark’s most loved aspects – Ashburn Alley – named of course for Harry’s buddy and longtime mike-mate Richie Ashburn.
The ceremony now will be held Tuesday night before the opener of the series with the Diamondbacks.
