No end to the Vick debate

At least one other person is ready to put the Michael Vick Experience (the dogfighting edition) behind us.

You can read the column penned by my colleague sports editor Rob Parent here.

Rob lays out the case that Vick now is to be judged by what he does on the field as the clear face of the franchise for the Philadelphia Eagles.

I agree. I also think we’re still in the minority.

I hear every day from people who yelp every time we feature Vick on the front page of the newspaper.

They hated it when the Eagles signed him. They loathed every second last year when he exploded back into superstardom after Kevin Kolb got hurt in the opener and Vick took command of the team. They gritted their teeth when Vick was named the new starter by Coach Andy Reid, just 24 hours after he insisted that Kevin Kolb was still his starter. And they complained loud and clear when the team bestowed a $100 million dollar contract on Vick this summer.

The debate goes on. Look for the national media to jump all over the story line this weekend as Vick leads the Eagles back to Atlanta, where he started his career, and where his fall from grace led the team to sue him to get some of their money back.

Vick will be the biggest story in the NFL this weekend.

And no doubt that will give a lot of people of “paws.”
