No party time for Phils

Hold the champagne.

The Phils didn’t feel much like celebrating after they clinched their fifth straight playoff appearance yesterday in Houston.

Maybe that’s because of the way they played. They scored all of one run and rode the strong right arm of Roy Halladay, who scattered six hits in shutting out the Astros, 2-1. The Phils scored in the top of the first; no one scored the rest of the game. That gives the Phils a grand total of four runs scored in their three games in Houston.

Make no mistake. This team is not about the playoffs. They’re not even about clinching the National League East. Their “Magic Number” is now four.

This team is all about going back to the World Series –and winning it. So hold the celebrations. Especially if they don’t start scoring some runs.

Then again, there might have been a reason for the way they played yesterday. If they looked like a team that was in a hurry to get home, they were. They’re playing a day-night double-header vs. the Marlins at Citizens Bank Park.
