Phils rain on their fans

The Phillies got another big win last night. It was their fans who were the losers.

There weren’t a lot left when the Phils finally put away the Braves for their 90th win of the season. That’s because the game, scheduled to start at 7:05, was delayed nearly two hours by rain. Add in a three hour, five-minute affair and you have more than five hours of misery “raining” all over the Phils’ loyal fans.

The Phils did not call the game early. They consulted their forecast – and their schedule – and they sat. Of course, they were happily ensconced in their offices and locker rooms. Fans did not have that choice. They were told to sit tight – in what at times was a driving rain storm.

Oh, and by the way, the concession stands with those $7 beers are open for your convenience.

As hard as it is to believe, it could have been worse, and actually was up in New York. The Yankees-Orioles game, also delayed by rain, ended at 2:15 a.m.

The Phils did not have a lot of choice. They do not have any more open dates through the rest of the schedule, and the Braves already were looking at playing a double-header on Thursday. Back-to-back doubleheaders was not especially appetizing, and it looks like today’s weather is not going to be a lot better than last night’s.

Still, it seems like a crummy thing to do to fans who have packed Citizens Bank Park for more than 200 consecutive nights.

The Phillies agree. They are going to offer anyone with a ticket to last night’s game a complimentary ticket to several dates next season.

In the meantime, if you’re headed to the game tonight, pack your rain gear. Showers are in the forecast. And you can guess about how much chance there is that the Phils will call the game early.

This article is pointless. IF your a true Phillies fan you would either wait it out or go home and know that the Phillies are a classy orginization and would probably do something to make it better for you in the long run. It's not there fault that the MLB season is entirely too long and the schedule way too tight this time of year. They did the best they could plus fans didn't have to sit in the stands. There is the concourse out of the rain. Plus McFaddens and several other places they could go.
