We'll be talking Eagles tonight

All things come to those who wait, right Phillies fans?

The Phillies have not clinched a playoff spot. Yet. They will, they just haven’t managed to pop the cork on the champagne, despite needing only one win – or one loss against by the St. Louis Cardinals.

That’s because the Phils have gone into lowly Houston and fallen on their face two straight nights. Last night it was Cole Hamels falling to the Astros. The Phils have now lost three straight.

Roy Halladay will look to push the Phils into the playoffs when he goes to the hill for an afternoon game in Houston today.

Meanwhile, what do you think about those Eagles? We’re planning an Eagles Roundtable for tonight’s Live From the Newsroom live-stream Internet broacast.

I’ll be joined by Eagles beat writer Bob Grotz and lead sports columnist Jack McCaffery as we review Week 1 and preview Michael Vick’s return to Atlanta for a prime-time Sunday night game.

Do you have a question you’d like to ask Bob or Jack? Email it to me at editor@delcotimes.com. Or log into DelcoTimes.com tonight at 7 and join our live chat.

We’ll be talking Birds live tonight at 7. Join us.

The Eagles are looking to be a "team to beat," thus far. Yes, it was a little shaky, at first, but they won, and made it convincing. There are, still, some glaring weaknesses that need to be rectified, not the least of which is protecting the quarterback. Michael Vick is a dynamic QB, but is not, in my opinion, big enough to be asked to carry the rushing game while, also, being asked to throw the ball. Further, according to game analysts (the talking heads the networks use to explain "football" to us ignorant masses), most teams seek to contain Michael Vick, keeping him in the pocket; isn't this where we want him to be? After all, he is not the same QB he was in Atlanta, and has - vastly - improved that part of his game.

My question: If Michael Vick is to remain healthy throughout the year, is it prudent to expect him to carry the rushing load along with throwing the ball?
