On an election day when county Democrats believe they have their best chance in years to break the GOP fortress known as the Delaware County Courthouse, and the incumbent Republican mayor of Chester is facing a tough re-election fight, guess who is paying a visit to the county tomorrow?
No, not Vice President Joe Biden. He will be here on Friday for the annual Veterans Day parade in Media.
But tomorrow his boss will do Delco.
President Barack Obama will be in Philadelphia for an appearance Tuesday and is making a swing into Delaware County.
While not confirmed, it is believed the president will visit the Yeadon Regional Center Head Start program. It is located in the same building that used to house the St. Louis Catholic elementary school.
The visit is supposed to be officially confirmed later today, but we reported most of the details here today.
When I learned last week that the president was coming to Philadelphia on Tuesday, I wondered if he would make a stop in Delaware County. Of course, I was interested in whether he was going to make a pit stop in Chester, where Democrat John Linder is threatening to oust incumbent Republican Mayor Wendell Butler Jr.
The campaign heated up considerably after the Butler team started putting up billboards with images of the president and the mayor, saying that the Obama Administration has chosen Chester and on Nov. 8, so should you.
Still Democratic boss David Landau must be thrilled. And GOP chief Andy Reilly probably can take some pride in the fact that the Dems are bringing the heavy artillery in this local election.
Stay tuned for the full details on the president’s visit later today.
