December to Remember? Nah!

Raise your hand if there was not a Lexus with a big red bow on it out in the driveway out in the driveway on Christmas morning.

Thought so.

So much for a December to Remember.

For some reason, that commercial really bothered me this year. Maybe it’s because it seems to crystallize for me the commercialism that has taken over the holiday.

And maybe because it’s clear that Lexus upped the ante this year. I remember the commercial in years past, but it was for the most part one spot that you saw a couple of times.

This year you could not switch the channel without seeing one of several stories involving that ubiquitous jingle and the scenario in which the new luxury car is bestowed on a lucky spouse.

Of course it did not help that in one version a very young couple is celebrating their good fortune. When I was their age, I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to pay the rent, let alone a new car.

They say that an ad is deemed successful if you remember it, even if it’s for the wrong reason.

If that’s the case, Lexus has likely succeeded beyond their wildest dreams.

I really only want to know one thing. Just how much do you think they spent on that campaign.

And has anyone ever actually gotten a new car with a red bow on it for Christmas?

If you have by all means post a comment and let us know the details.
