Reid it & weep, Eagles fans; & Tiger is back

Even when the Eagles aren’t playing, they still lose. Thanks fo their debacle Thursday night in Seattle, the Birds got the weekend off.

Hopefully, they stayed away from the TV yesterday. If not, they likely realize they have blown a golden opportunity.

If you paid any attention to what happened in the NFL yesterday, and if you are an Eagles fan, you’re probably even more steamed at the way the Birds have laid down this year under Andy Reid.

That’s because everything that needed to happen to make the Eagles slim playoff chances a possibility came true.

Amazingly, the Cowboys lost in overtime to the Cardinals out in the Phoenix desert. If someone can explain to me how that could happen, I would be quite grateful.

Second, the Giants seemed to have a huge one in the win column when Eli Manning drove his team to a late TD vs. the Packers. Unfortunately, he left just enough time on the clock for Aaron Rodgers to put the Packers in position to kick a game-winning field goal.

Don’t look now, but if the Eagles manage to win out and the Cowboys and Giants continue to falter, the Eagles would win a tie-breaker with having a better in-conference record.

I know, I know, it’s a Christmas wish. And it has about as much a chance of happening as there being a new Lexus with a huge red bow on it in my driveway on Christmas morning.

Besides, for most of the afternoon yesterday, I was captivated by the big sports story of the weekend.

Tiger Woods got back in the win column.

It wasn’t easy, but Tiger birdied the final hole to claw out a one-stroke victory over Zach Johnson in the Chevron Challenge. It’s not an official PGA Tour win, but I am sure Tiger will take it. That classic fist-pump when his last putt fell tells you everything you need to know about what the win meant to Tiger.

I’ll tell you what it means to golf: Everything. Tiger is the tour. He’s responsible for ratings, which in turn means higher purses for everyone who wins. When he's on the leaderboard, golf matters - to a lot of people. When he's not, it only matters to golf nuts like me.

Getting him back in the win column is huge for the sport.

And you read it here first: I say Tiger wins the Masters next April, and goes on to enjoy a monster year.

Welcome back, Tiger.
