Eagles left out in the cold

The more I watched the NFL playoffs this weekend, the madder I got.

Raise your hand if you think the Eagles are better than almost all of these teams. OK, I’ll give you the Saints. But I wasn’t blown away by any of the others, and that includes Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos.

I simply cannot explain the Tebow phenomenon. When he throws the ball, he looks like he’s heaving a shotput. Doesn’t much matter. That’s because, say what you want about Tebow, he wins. What else can you really ask for?

I will say this, however. Does it mean that God is against the other teams that the Broncos are playing? Tebow is entitled to his beliefs. I respect him for that. I just wish he’d keep them to himself. Instead, he insists on starting almost every quote with how he and his teammates are “blessed.”

In the meantime, Eagles fans are not feeling exactly blessed. Cursed may be more like it.

The “dream team” that missed the playoffs because of their early-season pratfalls looks to me like it could handle any of these teams that were on display on Wild Card weekend.

While we’ve heard from owner Jeff Lurie, there’s still nothing but silence from the coach he is bringing back. That would be Andy Reid. The Eagles apparently parted ways with a defensive backs coach over the weekend. Was he responsible for the disastrous decision not to allow Nnamdi Osamugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to do what they do best, play press coverage, in favor of a zone that made them look lost and completely out of place?

The longer Reid remains silent, the worse it looks for embattled defensive coordinator Juan Castillo. Could the Eagles be waiting for word from Steve Spagnuolo, who was axed as head coach of the Rams?

For now, all Eagles fans can do is grit their teeth and think about next year.

All in, again? Right, Andy? Jeff? Joe? Juan?
