'Live From the Newsroom' tackles Catholic school closings

‘Live From the Newsroom’ comes back for Year Two tonight to tackle one of the biggest issues in Delaware County.

And it’s one that’s about to explode all over again.

We’ll be talking about the crisis in the Philadelphia Archdiocese and parochial education.

A blue-ribbon panel will meet Friday to announce its recommendations, which are expected to include the closing of as many as 40 schools.

We’ll have a man who is at the center of the storm, the Rev. James Olson, president of Monsignor Bonner High School in Upper Darby, as well as some other Bonner backers here at our Daily Times offices to talk about what they expect. Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast seem to be at the center of the storm.

Olson is on record as saying he’s preparing for all possibilities. That could include closure of one or both of the schools, or a possible merger, which would end the tradition of single-sex education at Bonner and Prendergast.

If you have a comment or a question that you would like to put to Rev. Olson, please post a comment to the blog, or email me at editor@delcotimes.com. You also can log onto the show tonight at www.delcotimes.com and take part in our live chat.

Also if you have a topic you’d like to see addressed, feel free to make a suggestion.

You’ve seen us in print. Now see us on your computer. We’ll be live talking about more Catholic school closings in Delaware County.

Join us tonight at 7!

Please see the petition below. These 2 schools should at least be given the chance to merge. These schools going away hurt the students and all the people that will loose their jobs. Our neighbors. Enough is enough.
