Why does 'Nova outdraw the Sixers?

Three games in three nights proved too much for the Sixers.

They fell to the Knicks in Madison Square Garden last night.

You can read Dennis Deitch’s game coverage here.

Interestingly enough, the Wells Fargo Center was not dark last night.

Instead, Villanova hosted the No. 1 team in the nation, Syracuse. And the Orange left a few black & blue marks on the Wildcats in rolling to a 79-66 win. The loss leaves the ‘Cats one game under .500 at 8-9 and 1-4 in the Big East.

But here’s what I noticed. Almost 15,000 people made their way to South Philly for a college game.

The last two Sixers home games drew crowds of 10,000 and a miniscule 8,000.

This is not new. Philly, a great basketball town, has always had trouble drawing at the pro level. Anyone remember those Julius Erving teams struggling to sellout early-round playoff games?

I don’t get it.

Can someone explain this to me?
