Check it out! Big day for CU teacher on 'Ellen'


Chester Upland school teacher Sara Ferguson got more than she bargained for when she made an appearance on the “Ellen” show yesterday.


Comic and talk host Ellen DeGeneres had noticed Ferguson when she was a guest of First Lady Michelle Obama at the State of the Union Address.


Ferguson got that invite because of her stand – along with other members of the Chester Upland Education Association – to stay in their classrooms despite the possibility that the broke district would not be able to pay them.


DeGeneres presented Ferguson with a check for $100,000 by way of a foundation set up by JC Penney.
