Mother Nature trumps Punxsutawney Phil

Is it just me or does the whole idea of Punxsutawney Phil and Groundhog Day lose a lot of its appeal when we’re having 60-degree days on Feb. 1?

Who cares if he sees his shadow or not, just so long as we continue this kind of winter weather.

Last year most of us were beaten and battered by what seemed like a new snow storm every other day. We looked to the famous Pennsylvania rodent to deliver us some glimmer of hope. Either that or dreams of pitchers and catchers returning to Clearwater.

But when you can go out side in your shirtsleeves, winter doesn’t seem so bad.

Of course, if you are interested in all the increasingly phony hoopla out there in Gobblers Notch, you can click here. You'll love the lead.

Me? I’ll settle for another month or so without show.

Then again, if the temperature suddenly shot up to 80 degrees, I wouldn’t be complaining.
