Doug Collins, meet Andy Reid.
The Sixers coach pulled a classic “Andy Reid” last night in lamenting the fate of his team, which once again came up short at crunch time in a big game against the Chicago Bulls.
You’ve seen this act before, both from the Sixers and from Philly coaches talking about it after the game.
The Sixers went ice cold in the fourth quarter and couldn’t buy a bucket in the final minutes as they faded in the stretch and fell to the Bulls, 96-91. After the game Collins had a lot of guys in the media channeling Andy Reid when he proclaimed “I take full responsibility for that” after noting it was the “same thing” that bedeviled his team.
Collins is being a little hard on himself. He can’t make a shot. And he can’t speed the recovery of Spencer Hawes.
But Collins knows that at this level, there are no excuses.
“I’m paid to win games,” he said. “That’s what (owner) Josh Harris pays me to do.”
Andy Reid knows just how you feel, coach.
