More on the Limbaugh affair

Nothing I’ve ever written has sparked the kind of debate as the blog item I penned yesterday about embattled conservative talk show giant Rush Limbaugh.

At last glance the blog item had generated almost 40 comments. That’s a good thing.

If you want to see what others have said, click here. But don’t just read. Take part. Join the conversation. Either on this blog or on yesterday’s. That’s the whole idea behind these kinds of interactive forums. I express an opinion in my blog. And the readers now have the opportunity to do the same.

Here’s the morning update. Yesterday Limbaugh again apologized for the disparaging comments he made about Sandra Fluck, a 30-year-old law student. He insisted the apology was sincere.

But advertisers continue to bail on the show. At last count eight advertisers had jumped ship. Limbaugh didn’t seem too concerned, however, vowing they would easily be replaced.

A little more problematic is the fact that’s he’s now been dropped by several radio stations.

Look, I don’t agree with what Limbaugh said. And of course now the magic word “lawsuit” is being uttered. That was only a matter of time.

But as someone who walks this tightrope every day, I can feel for Limbaugh. As I said yesterday, nobody in this business seems to know exactly where the line is these days.

That’s why we have photos of Whitney Houston in her casket; why reports of reality TV star “Snooki” Polizzi are considered news; and why politics has become a blood sport.

Wherever that line is, Limbaugh clearly stepped across it.

Been there, done that.

Now I want you to join the conversation. Do you think Limbaugh went too far? What do you think the appropriate response should be? Do you agree with the advertisers who have dropped him as well as the stations who have kicked him to the curb. They didn’t seem to mind it when he was making millions for their stations. And are you surprised that the lawyers are about to get involved?
