Call it the Saturday Summit.
Things are getting down to crunch time when it comes to the future of three local refineries.
On Saturday, Sunoco execs again huddled with local officials. This time new CEO Brian MacDonald and other Sunoco brass met with U.S. Rep. Pat Meehan, R-7, and state Sen. Dominic Pileggi, R-9, at the Drexelbrook.
This comes as two hearings now loom over the situation.
Meehan will hold a hearing of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence on March 19 at Neumann University.
U.S. Sen. Bob Casyey, D-Pa., also has indicated he plans to hold Senate hearings on the economic fallout from the potential shutdowns.
They got some new ammo in the startling findings in a report released by the state Department of Labor & Industry.
While the shutdown of the three refineries would directly affect as many as 2,000 workers, the L&I report suggests as many as 36,000 jobs in the region could be impacted by the move.
That would amount to a $560 million economic hit to the region.
