To Drexel, this really is madness!

The Year of the Dragon just turned into the Year of the Draggin’.

Drexel is not going to the NCAA Tournament. The Dragons won 27 games and the regular season Colonial Athletic Association crown.

But Bruiser Flint’s squad did not win the most important game. That would be the CAA Tournament Championship game, which they lost to Virginia Commonwealth.

That put them at the mercy of the NCAA Selection Committee, which showed the Dragons the back of their hand.

Drexel really needs to look no further than their schedule for the reason they are going to the NIT instead of the NCAA. The had a great year, going 27-6, and at one point winning 19 straight. But their non-conference schedule simply does not put them at the level they need to be to earn the kind of respect that would win them entry to the NCAA when they need an at-large bid.

The only local teams headed to the NCAA are Temple and Lehigh.

I wouldn’t look for either of them to go very far. Temple certainly has a good shot of winning their first game.

For its hard work and great season, Patrio League champion Lehigh gets a date with Duke in the first round.

Good luck with that one.
