'Live From the Newsroom' dives into Easter food traditions

I have learned a lot about Italian food and traditions in the 29 years since I married into a very Italian family.

Most holidays, I’m the token Irish guy. I bring the beer.

One of the most special traditions is reserved for Easter.

I had never heard of a frittata before my first Easter with my new in-laws. Now understand, I do not eat eggs. And a frittata is all about eggs - a lot of them. My mother-in-law once said she used as many as 50 eggs for one of her creations.

The Easter breakfast has always been a very special tradition for them, and I assume for many Italians. And the frittata is the centerpiece. It is an egg dish, kind of like an omelette on steroids, usually with some kind of meat or pepper included. These things are thick, about two inches deep.

I don’t think they make the list of heart-healthy foods, but it would not be Easter without them.

So I figured I would gather our very Italian gang from Cucina Chatter to talk a little about Easter traditions – and in particular food.

So join us tonight for a special holiday edition of ‘Live From the Newsroom.’ Lorraine Ranalli and Chef Jacquie Peccina-Kelly will delve into some of the secrets of Easter dining.

If you haven’t heard of Easter Bread, my guess is you did not grow up in an Italian household.

Yes, we’ll also have some special things you can do with ham.

If you have a special Easter tradition you’d like to pass along, please email me at editor@delcotimes.com. Or you can join the show tonight by taking part in our live chat at DelcoTimes.com. What are your special Easter traditions. Do you something special with eggs? Do you color them a special way with the kids?

Me? Hey, all I know is that sometime Sunday afternoon I will sit down and enjoy my first beer in 40 days. I’m thinking Stella.

Please join us tonight at 7 as ‘Live From the Newsroom’ dives in to Easter food traditions.

I'm a die hard Italian South Philly girl planted in Springfield Delco by my hubby. I sure miss all the specialty foods from Philly, especially at holiday times. I have lived here 17 years and I'm still looking for Easter Bread. HELP ME PLEASE!!! Pinkpup
