More good news on the refinery front

The news continues to get brighter on the bleak landscape of two closed local refineries.

Yesterday we told you of our visit with PUC boss Rob Powelson, who said he was pretty confident that there would be a future for the shutdown ConocoPhillips and Sunoco refineries in Trainer and Marcus Hook.

Today there is more good news.

An independent trade publication is reporting there is renewed interest in both Sunoco’s South Philly refinery – the only one of three local plants still operating – as well as the ConocoPhillips site.

Tom Kloza is chief oil analyst for an outfit called Oil Price Information Service. Yesterday he reported there were several bidders for the South Philly Sunoco site, as well as a couple of bidders now interested in the Conoco’s Trainer site.

We’ll have all the details later today.

One site not mentioned was the Sunoco Marcus Hook refinery. But Powelson pointed out last week that he believed the iconic Sunoco facility would be ideal to adapt to the burgeoning Marcellus slale development, either as a store unit or transfer facility.
