Tire slashing comes to Delco

That new Olympic sport – tire slashing – had made its way to Delaware County.

After terrorizing sections of Northeast Philadelphia with repeated incidents of vandalism, this mindless activity is now moving to the suburbs.

Claymont, Del., reports nine cars had their tires slashed.

And it is showing up in Upper Darby as well. Tire slashers hit six cars over the weekend.

If you’ve ever had this happen to you, then you know how maddening it is. You rush out of the house in the morning looking to get somewhere, only to see the sickening site of your deflated tires.

But the hassle is only starting. Then you have to try to change the tire, assuming the knuckleheads only sliced one tire.

And there’s the cost. Tires are not cheap. Some people in the Mayfair section of Philly have been hit two or three times.

Upper Darby police believe the incident there and in Claymont are copycat crimes sparked by the original wave of vandalism in Philly.

I tell you what has me concerned. Someone is going to get killed. This is way past being considered a prank. And now the aggravation tied to these crimes is skyrocketing.

Someone is going to get caught in the act, and what happens next is not going to be pretty.

They better hope the cops catch them before the neighborhood does.
