Corbett to talk about Upper Darby schools

UPDATE! It's not just Upper Darby where they are talking about school finances, state funding and possible cuts.

It's also being bandied about in Harrisburg. A lot of fingers in Upper Darby have been pointed at the state Capitol - in particular Gov. Tom Corbett - and his austere budgets for some of the cuts being implemented at the local level.

On Wednesday we will hear from the governor himself on budgets, education and the struggles of local districts.

Corbett will be the guest of our pal Dom Giordano of Talk Radio 1210 WPHT. Dom will focus on the situation in Upper Darby during his exclusive weekly Gov. Tom Corbett Show. Dom says he will highlight Upper Darby as a microcosm of school district cutbacks around the state.

Corbett is expected specifically to address Upper Darby's need for more state funding.

Dom's interview with the governor will air from 10-11 a.m. on WPHT 1210-AM.

Then you can folow up tomorrow night with our 'Live From the Newsroom' session with Lou DeVlieger, superintendent of Upper Darby Schools, Assistant Superintendent Dan McGarry, and Business Manager. We'll ask them about the governor's comments.

You can join the conversation by logging into DelcoTimes.com Wednesday night at 7 and taking part in our live chat.

Don't sit on the sidelines. This issue is too important not to have your voice heard.

And it's not just Upper Darby. As we indicated in our story on Sunday, there are lots of districts around the county that are feeling the budget squeeze. Yours is likely one of them.

Tell us what you think. Get engaged. Don't wait for the situation to hit the crisis point, as it has in Upper Darby.
