No Halladay for suffering Phils fan

Good Morning, Flyers fans! How ‘bout those Flyers?

Hey, look on the bright side. It appears as if the Fightins’ offense is coming to life. Even as its vaunted pitching ace last night suffered a slow, humiliating death.

Let’s face it, what happened last night in a steamy ‘Hot-lanta’ does not happen every day. Thankfully.

You hand Roy Halladay a 6-0 lead, you should be on cruise control, right? Uh, not exactly.

Yes, that was Halladay trudging to the dugout after being lifted with the Phils down, 8-6. Halladay had suffered a grand slam from Phillies killer Braves catcher Brian McCann, to make it a 6-6 game, then relinquished the lead the very next inning.

Halladay had a 107-0 record in his career when handed a lead of at least four runs. Make that 107-1.

Luckily, his battery mate tried valiantly to bail him out. But not even the heroics of Carlos Ruiz could save the Phils on this night. All Ruiz did was homer and double to drive in 7 runs. His dinger put the Phils back in the lead, but the Phils managed to blow that one as well.

Eventually the slugfest went to extra innings and the Braves prevailed, 15-13. The Braves had 15 hits, the Phils 17. That’s been a good week for the Phils this spring.

For all the gory details, you can read Ryan Lawrence’s story here.

So, what do you take away from a game like this? Are you heartened that the Phillies seem to be hitting the ball hard again, or are you apoplectic that Halladay got shelled, blew a 6-0 lead, and is raising a lot of eyebrows about whether he is complete healthy.

For now, it’s being written off as just one of those nights. It better be. If there is anything wrong with Halladay, not all the offense in the world will save the Phils.
