When it rains it pours for Philly fans

Good Morning, Philly sports fans. Slowly now, pull the covers from over your head. No, it was not a nightmare. It was real. Your teams took the trifecta last night. All three lost.

The Flyers season is over. They lost to the Devils and after spending $51 million on a goalie, they head into the summer with the same issue that has hung over this franchise since Bernie Parent hung up his skates. Is Ilya Bryzgalov the answer? He didn’t look like it last night, with a crucial giveaway that handed the Devils a key opportunity to break a 1-1 tie. The Devils never looked back and strolled to a 3-1 lead.

Here’s your coverage, and here’s Jack McCaffery’s thoughts on Mr. Bryzgalov’s effort last night.

The Sixers didn’t fare much better out in Chicago. They allowed a wounded Bulls team – playing without Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah – to escape with a win and extend the series. The Sixers now come home for Game 6 Thursday night clinging to a 3-2 series lead. They would do well not to have to trek back to Chicago for a deciding Game 7.

And is Doug Collins ever going to figure out what to do with Evan Turner.

Check out Dennis Deitch’s reporting from Chi-Town here.

Then there are the Phillies. Maybe we should just check back with them on Memorial Day.

The Phils’ bullpen imploded for the second night in a row, wasting another good effort from Joe Blanton and leading to a 7-4 win for the Mets.

This is no longer just a blip. This team has problems, some of which will not be cured by the return of Chase Utley and Ryan Howard, if and when that happens.

Brace yourself, Phillies fans. The playoffs just might be a struggle for this squad.

Ryan Lawrence has the details on last night’s debacle.

Right now they are dead last in the NL East, a place they have not resided since 2005.

So jump out of bed and start your day. It has to get better from here, right? Ugh, don’t expect the weather to help. It’s miserable out. Rain this morning, followed by showers this afternoon.

Matching the mood of most Philly fans today.
