Flyers West win the Stanley Cup

If you listen hard enough, you can almost hear the voice of Gene Hart:

“Ladies and gentlemen, the Flyers (West) are going to win the Stanley Cup!”

“The Flyers (West) win the Stanley Cup!”

“The Flyers (West) win the Stanley Cup!”

“The Flyers (West) have won win the Stanley Cup!”

Well, sort of.

The Los Angeles Kings – also known as the Flyers West – won the first Stanley Cup in the franchise’s history last night.

You can read about it here.

And they would not have done so if it were not for the Flyers East decision to break up the old gang last year. That meant dealing Mike Richards to L.A. and Jeff Carter to Columbus. This year Carter was dealt to the Kings, reuniting him with his old Jersey shore pal.

They are not the only Flyers links. Justin Williams and Simon Gagne also are on the team.

Ron Hextall is a key front office exec with the Kings. Former Flyers’ coach John Stevens is an assistant.

None of which is going to make Flyers fans feel any better this morning.

Hey, how about that Chase Utley rehab stint starting today?
