Road trip for Upper Darby parents

Fresh off another big showing at last night’s Upper Darby School Board meeting, parents and others riled up about cuts in the district today have decided to take a road trip.

And they just might find a few unexpected friends when they arrive at the state Capitol in Harrisburg.

They are irked at the district’s budget plan that includes axing lots of teacher positions, hiking taxes, and most importantly, killing the special classes for art and music in the elementary schools, and tech and language in the middle schools. Phys ed classes also are being cut for elementary kids.

You can read about the passion they brought to last night’s school board meeting here.

Turns out they’re not the only ones upset at education funding in the state.

The Legislature is also looking to put a lot of the money back in the fiscal plan that was sliced out by Gov. Tom Corbett.

Should be a very interesting day in Harrisburg.
