All eyes on Upper Darby

The state budget is a done deal. The numbers are about what was expected.

That should come as good news to Upper Darby. They’re getting a lot of extra money, $726,000 in the Affordability Block Grant program and $2 million from the Distressed School Fund.

The ball is now in the Upper Darby School Board’s court.

The problem is they have been hedging their bets, unwilling to tell the public exactly how they are going to use this new funding stream and sticking to the idea of a “realignment” of the district curriculum. We editorialized about it on Sunday.

Parents are not happy with the way the board and administration have handled this issue from Day 1. Should they not use this money for restoring the programs that were cut, my guess is there will be a few elected officials ticked off at them as well.

The board said they would hold a public hearing after the state budget was finalized to talk about how exactly they are going to use the money.

We’ll check back with them today about when and where that meeting will be held.

It ought be be a doozy.

They will be voted out, PERIOD.

If they don't put these programs back with this money, it's proof that the board is subscribing (cough) to a higher charter.
