The Luries part ways

Here's one I didn't see coming.

Jeff and Christina Lurie always struck me as the perfect Boston Brahmins. They also just happened to be the husband and wife team that owned the Philadelphia Eagles.

Not anymore.

The Luries have announced they are splitting up after 20 years of marriage.

Christina Lurie was never your standard owner's wife. She was more active than most, playing a key role in many of the Eagles social and charitable activities. You got the feeling she had her husband's ear and likely had a little more say than many owners' wives. This was much more of a couple that just him running the Eagles.

Christina Lurie even was influential in getting Vera Wang to design the unis for the Eagles cheerleaders.

It's been a tough few months for Jeff Lurie. First he had to go through the upheaval of a down Eagles season and all the talk about whether his head coach, Andy Reid, would return. Then his best Boston buddy, Joe Banner, decided he was going to seek new challenges. No one is saying whether or not this came about as a power struggle with Reid. And now the Luries have announced they are splitting up.

The Eagles have indicated this will have no effect on team operations and that the Luries will remain 'close friends.'
