Papelbon provides no relief for Phils

He was one of the few things the Phillies could bank on in this increasingly desolate season.

But last night it was Jonathon Papelbon's turn to implode.

The Phils' $50 million closer strode to the mound to seal the deal on a 4-3 Phillies lead. Instead he surrendered two runs to the Mets, including the winning bloop base hit from Phillies killer David Wright.

Read Ryan Lawrence's account of the carnage here.

And so the (down)beat continues.

Tonight the Phils will look for the return of Ryan Howard to save an increasingly lost season.

Here's the update on Howard, who could be in the lineup tonight at Citizens Bank Park when the Phillies kick off a weekend set vs. another division rival, the Atlanta Braves, before the All-Star break.
