2 days, 2 Boeing stories

Yes, that is Boeing on today’s front page again.

I have to admit that when I saw the advisory on the event – first thing Thursday morning – I got that familiar wince in my stomach.

That’s because Boeing already was making news on the front page of Thursday’s paper. In fact it was screaming in our lead headline.

A former union leader at the plant got jail time in connection with a federal investigation into drug sales at the Ridley plant.

But we were right back at the plant yesterday for their wingding to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the rollout of the first Chinook helicopter.

You can read the story about the Chinook here.

Hundreds of Boeing workers took part in the ceremony, stopping to mark an important milestone for the company, one of the county’s industrial icons – and biggest employers.

About 5,000 people are employed at Boeing in Ridley Township. The overwhelming majority of them were not involved in the drug sting at the plant.

Just thought I’d point that out.

Congratulations on the 50th anniversary of one of the military’s most enduring vehicles, the mighty Chinook, created right here in Delaware County.
