Break up the Phillies!
Oh, wait a minute. Ruben Amaro already did that.
For the second straight night, the new-look Phillies took it to the first-place Nationals, offering the upstarts a reminder of the way things used to be.
Jimmy Rollins hits two solo home runs, and newcomer Nate Schierholtz hit the game winner to give the Phils a 3-2 win.
You can read Ryan Lawrence’s game story here.
In the meantime, the two Phils who were shown the door, and given tickets to the West Coast, went a combined 0-for-8 in their new digs.
Shane Victorino was 0-for-4 in the leadoff spot for the Dodgers, while Pence was given a rousing ovation in San Fran before taking the collar in four trips to the plate.
Victorino took a page out of the David Akers Class Guy book by taking out a full-page ad in today’s Daily News to thank the Philly fans.
This is the same guy, remember, who put up much of the money to renovate a Police Athletic League rec center in the city’s Nicetown section.
Nice guy, that Shane.
Only thing nicer would have been if he’d placed that ad with us as well.
Guess you can’t have everything.
