The lanky left-hander took the mound at Citizens Bank Park Tuesday night – and quickly took control.
Hamels pitched a complete game gem – shutting out the Braves on just five hits – and not walking a single batter.
That’s what you call an “ace.” The Phils had lost seven straight games to Atlanta. They had been swept at Citizens Bank Park, and then again in Hot-Lanta.
They needed a stopper. They needed an ace.
That’s what they got from Cole Hamels.
