It’s the middle of August. The Phillies are struggling mightily to scratch their way back into the National League Wild Card race. The Eagles are preparing for their second exhibition game.
So how about those Sixers?
Yes, we’re talking hoops. In August.
That, folks, is called marketing.
And it’s something the Sixers have not done terribly well since Delco’s own Pat Croce left town.
The slick new Sixers owners threw a little party yesterday to introduce their huge offseason acquisition. But they didn’t simply set up a table at the Wells Fargo Center with name cards for new center Andrew Bynum and shooting guard Jason Richardson.
Instead they threw a wingding at the National Constitution Center. They invited their fans to take part. The place was packed. Fans cheered wildly when Bynum intimated he was so moved by the reaction that he might sign a long-term deal here.
It’s safe to assume the addition of a legitimate star in the 7-foot Bynum will also have an effect on putting people in all those Wells Fargo Center seats. That's the idea. That and winning games.
