I think I might have this Phillies thing figured out.
It’s taken 48 years, but the baseball Gods have decided to pay us back for 1964.
If you’re of a certain age - OK, old - you know alltoo well about the slow, agonizing death we suffered so long ago. Starting with that chilling Chico Ruiz steal of home, we watched in horror as the Phillies frittered away a double-digit lead in the final two weeks of the season.
And there’s more. Remember who won that pennant? That’s right, the same team that booted us out of the playoffs last year. This time it’s the Cardinals gagging up a lead. They lost again last night, swept by the Padres.
The Phillies are now three games out of the Wild Card. That’s not a misprint. A team that was 14 games under .500 just after the All-Star break is now just three games out of the playoffs.
I'm not the only one back on board. CLICK HERE to see how Delco fans and dealing with an unexpected case of Wild Card Fever.
Revenge is ours. Especially when it takes 48 years to get here.
