While most of us were caught up in the holiday weekend, and one of the truly momentous musical moments in Philly's long history of great sounds, an old favorite showed up.
Boos.
No, not Bruuuuuuce! The trademark, full-throated calling card of Philly fans.
Thanks, Phillies.
When we weren't paying attention the last few days, the Phillies had somehow, almost beyond all reason, crawled back into contention for that second Wild Card spot.
This despite those two hideous losses to the Mets at home last week. Instead, they went into yesterday's late afternoon game in Atlanta with a shot at another sweep, which would put them just seven games back in the Wild Card.
The Phils were up 5-0 before everyone was in their seats in Hot-Lanta in the top of the first.
Then they did what they have been doing all too often this year. They stabbed us in the heart.
You can get all the details here.
The Phils lost, 8-7. Jonathan Papelbon ignoted an epic implosion in the ninth inning, culminating with a Chipper Jones walk-off homer.
There's still a month of baseball left. I supposed it's not impossible for the Phils to recover from a heart-breaking loss.
It might take the fans a little longer.
