Attention NIck Foles.
The over/under from Vegas is out on how many games Michael Vick will start this season. It’s 12. I’ll take the under. The only constant in Michael Vick’s career is that he cannot stay healthy.
Vegas things someone else will be playing quarterback for the Eagles in at least two games this year. As usual I think they are right on the money.
In the meantime, our live-stream Internet broadcast, ‘Live From the Newsroom,’ will offer a sneak preview of the Eagles season. Our special preview section on the Birds - including a special full-color centerspread Eagles schedule featuring LeSean McCoy and Michael Vick - will appear in the paper on Friday.
In the meantime, I’ll be joined tonight by Eagles beat writer Bob Grotz and featured columnist Jack McCaffery for a roundtable discussion and our predictions on the Birds season.
Forget Jeff Lurie and his recent statement that a repeat of last year’s 8-8 will not be enough for Andy Reid to keep his job. That’s not going to be an issue. This Eagles team should be a serious factor for the NFC East crown. The Birds should be in the playoffs.
The big questions surround Vick - one, can he stay healthy, and two, can he avoid being the turnover machine he was last year as the Eagles got off to a miserable start that doomed their season.
Yes, much was made of the decision to make Juan Castillo defensive coordinator despite never coaching defense in the pros. And the Eagles defense was routinely shredded in the first six weeks of the season, often coughing up second-half leads. But the bottom line is that if Vick doesn’t turn the ball over as much as he did, this team is in the playoffs.
For what seems like the zillionth time since Andy Reid arrived, I’ll spit out the same prediction. 10-6 and in the playoffs. What they do once they get there? That depends on Vick.
