Jack Whelan has a message for drug dealers.
Run and hide.
The Delco D.A. was in Collingdale yesterday morning, hours after a dragnet of law enforcement officials descended on the gritty little town before dawn and rounded up more than 30 people on drug-dealing charges.
You can get all the details here.
Whelan is especially worried about the spread of heroin use in the county. He says young people are initially getting hooked on opiates such as the powerful pain-killer oxycontin, then looking for a cheaper substitute. That’s when they start dabbling in heroin.
“Heroin is a particular problem for us,” Whelan said. “You’re either addicted or you’re dead.”
And if you are dealing, Whelan has this message for your. You’re going to be in jail. And you’re going to stay there.
There are 30 people in Collingdale this morning who can vouch for the fact that the war on drugs is very much alive here in Delaware County.
The D.A. vows he’s not done. He’s planning to take the county’s anti-violence task force to nearby towns such as Darby Borough and Sharon Hill.
“We’re going to make Delaware County a safer place,” Whelan said.
Yesterday was a good start.
