Hunter Pence is going to the World Series

Hunter Pence is going to the World Series. Kyle Lohse is not.

Both Phils played key parts in last night’s winner-take-all Game 7 of the National League Championship Series between the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals.

Lohse, who spent some time with the Phils, took the hill for the Cards, who were looking to stem the bleeding from blowing a 3-1 series advantage. All they had to do was win one more game. They failed to do so, and Lohse didn’t exactly help matters. He lasted just six outs, was lifted and then watched as one of the key hits was delivered by Pence, who was dealt to San Fran at the trade deadline. He doubled in the third to open the flood gates. The final score was 9-0.

After falling behind 3-1 in the series, the Giants outscored the Cardinals 20-1 to win three straight and advance to the Fall Classic, where they will face the Tigers starting Wednesday night.

Pence, who was popular during his first year here, but not nearly as much as he struggled much of this year without Ryan Howard’s bat in front of him, was lucky last night. He broke his bat on his double, but that imparted a weird spin on the ball.

Lohse did not get anyone out in the third, and was lifted after walking Buster Posey to load the bases.

That leaves Phillies fans with a predicament. Do you root for Hunter Pence to collect a World Series ring, or would you rather see him fall to the Tigers?

Forget ‘Let’s Go Eat,’ the saying he made popular while in Phillies pinstripes. Hunter Pence is going to the World Series.
