Enough about the storm. It’s almost enough to make you forget about sports. And the way the Eagles are playing, that might be just as well. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team fall apart so quickly. They’re in freefall and I don’t expect things to change much in New Orleans Monday night. Look for Nick Foles at QB, maybe sooner rather than later.
In the meantime, how ‘bout those Sixers!!!
The NBA season kicked off last night, and the Sixers will open tonight at the Wells Fargo Center.
And to get you in the mood, we have a very special offer in the print edition today. Make sure you pick up a copy to get our special full-color centerspread with the complete 2012-13 season schedule. It features Andrew Bynum, who of course will not be in the lineup tonight as he continues to nurse a sore knee.
But it is someone who will be out on the court that is generating most of the talk. The Sixers are facing the Denver Nuggets, and it will be an opportnity for fans to welcome back Andre Iguodala for the first time since the deal that sent him packing.
Fans here never really warmed up to Iguodala, a very good defensive player who probably was miscast as a superstar who could carry a team on his back. For some reason, Iguodala never assumed that mantle.
He never really endeared himself to the fans either, in part because of his penchant for bricking last-second shots. It got to the point where fans did not want the ball in Iguodala’s hands at the end of a game.
So how would you greet Iggy on a Halloween opener? A trick or a treat? Some cheers, or a ghoulish boooooooo?
Typical of his stay here, when asked about his thoughts about the Philly fans and what might happen tonight, Iguodala matter of factly blew the whole thing off with a cavalier, “I don’t care about the fans.”
We know, Andre. We know. We got that impression a long time ago.
