We got lucky.
We lost a couple of trees. At least one car, evidenced on our front page, got crushed by a tree.
There were some power outages.
But the truth is, in general, we got lucky when it comes to Hurricane Sandy, the so-called monster or “Franken-storm.”
It’s hard to imagine the kind of devastation heaped on the Jersey shore.
In short, I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that the shore has been altered forever.
Gov. Chris Christie, a man of no small bombast, seemed particularly taken aback by what happened along the shore. In a word, he called it 'unthinkable.' You can read that full story here.
We also have full photo coverage of the damage in our Media Center. Click here for most striking images in the wake of Sandy.
Even though there is serious damage, the destruction at the Delaware beaches does not seem to rival the situation at the Jersey shore.
A lot of people in Delaware County spend their summers at the Jersey shore. We’d like to hear from you so we can tell your stories. Email me at editor@delcotimes.
While life starts to return to normal here in Delaware County, the same can’t be said for the Jersey shore. The towns are dark. Sand and water are everywhere. Boardwalks and amusement piers have been destroyed.
Most importantly, lives were lost.
If you have property at the Jersey shore, help us tell your story.
